The city of London played host to the latest edition of  MOLA Fashion Talks. On October 30, Universo MOLA, a program of the Foundation Entre Soles y Lunas, organized this significant event at the Consulate General of Colombia in the British capital.

With the theme of  “Accelerating sustainability for future”, invited to reflect on the climate crisis and its impact. It is crucial to address and discuss this issue in order to generate diverse proposals and solutions. How can we revitalize our lives through the influential fashion industry? Are artificial intelligence and the metaverse viable and regenerative options to expedite change?.

The start of the event kicked off with Valentina Suarez, Director of Univero MOLA, sharing insights on the creation of future fashion in the present.  Jennifer Droguett, Designer and Creative Director, then took the stage to emphasize the importance of raising awareness about design and manufacturing in the textile industry.

Continuing the training sessions, Peruvian designer Genaro Rivas delivered a talk focused on the actions that both consumers and brands can take to generate a positive impact. The Embassy of Uruguay was also present, offering a toast with wine from their country. Colombian Influencer, Sara Ortega, along with other individuals from the local fashion and sustainability community, including British, Colombian, Peruvian, Uruguayan and Argentinean attendees.

As a part of the debate, several questions were raised to encourage participants to delve deeper into the presentations and engage in an enriching dialogue. Some of the questions discussed were: What are the differences and similarities observed between the British and Latin American fashion systems in terms of sustainability and its acceleration? Do you believe that implementing sustainable practices in the fashion industry is feasible? Which aspects do you think should be immediately prioritized?.

With an active audience, we explored the perspective of Latin American fashion from the United Kingdom and its impacts on market opportunities for the industry. Additionally, we pondered on how to change the consumption habits of everyday people. In response, the panelists emphasized the importance of transparency, traceability, and, as Valentina indicated, “lead by example” are important, based on the change to through example.

“Fashion is a powerful industry that plays an essential role in our lives. So, why don’t we use it to our advantage? The future is built from these exchanges and spaces. We change existing concepts and create a social imaginary with new values. Definitely, sustainable fashion is not expensive, it is fair. Thanks for this awesome event that allowed people to connect”, expresses Adriana Macridakis, Creative Producer based in London.

MOLA Fashion Talks London was an event conducted in English, paving the way for the expansion of the Latin American sustainable fashion movement, Universo MOLA, in British territory. We reaffirm our commitment to weaving global networks, promoting sustainability, and transcending borders. UM continues its tour towards the next destination: Madrid.

From Latin America to the World!
